Turbine firewall or shock mount side

I've seen in the internet if the headers is on the firewall side they put the turbine on that side. There are some if they go on a bigger turbine they put it on the shock mount side.
Someone told me the shock mount side turbine is not helpful.
Why is it not helpful?
Can anyone explain?
